More than just horsing around

By Cobram Courier

Cobram and District Pony Club is on the hunt for new members and is encouraging anyone interested in horse riding to come and try in July.

The club will host rallies on July 1 and 15 to allow people to check out the club’s facilities at Muckatah Recreation Reserve.

Club president Barb Clarke said the two days of action would be a fantastic opportunity for people to get actively involved in a sporting club that moved away from the mainstream.

‘‘We are really trying to promote our sport because horse riding is a sport and it’s good for the kids,’’ Mrs Clarke said.

‘‘We have been going for 57 years and we think we have an excellent facility that we want people to enjoy.’’

The facility includes a clubroom fitted with a commercial kitchen, a lovely shade sail-covered outdoor area and a number of enclosed spaces, including a round yard.

It also boasts excellent cross country facilities which cater for riders at grade six to grade one level.

‘‘People can bring their children and have a look at the fantastic grounds and the club. They can either bring their horse or simply see what the club is all about,’’ Mrs Clarke said.

‘‘If they bring their horse they only have to pay $10, which covers their insurance.’’

People who attend the days will have the chance to take part in a vast array of horse riding activities such as show jumping, cross country and games.

The president said new members would enjoy several qualities the club had to offer.

‘‘We try and make it all about having fun, which is very important, and we really try and generate a great club spirit that makes everyone feel like they really belong to the club,’’ Mrs Clarke said.
