Illegal dumping of rubbish is an ongoing problem at The Salvos op shop in St George's Rd, Shepparton.

Rubbish dump

- Maggie Turner-Miguel, Shepparton

On January 17, The News printed an article regarding the dumping of rubbish outside op shop collection bins.

About 7.30am each day I travel past the op shop on St Georges Rd and the amount of rubbish that is dumped there is appalling.

The quality of items that are usually tossed onto the footpath at the front of the store and around the corner in the side street is atrocious.

I also travel past that location every Monday evening about 8pm and I see people dumping their unwanted garbage, and I also notice others who are lurking to rummage through it after the dumpers leave, rendering the items useless if they weren’t already.

It would be a massive overhead in terms of time and money for the volunteers to sort it out and surely there is an authority that needs to take some responsibility here.

As for tip fees, I recently made a trip to the tip with a small amount of recyclable timber and was charged $20.

Does make one wonder.
