Great recovery

The Goulburn Murray Tennis Association Premier One Division faced a tremendous challenge in the week leading to the opening round in October.

The withdrawal of Echuca-Rich River meant the division could not go ahead as planned with the format of three men and three women for each team as in the previous season.

Officials made a superb effort in quickly reorganising the competition into teams of two men and one woman. This enabled an entry of six teams, four from Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club and two from Tatura-Kyabram.

Despite these problems, the finals will complete an even competition, with some of country Victoria’s best players involved.

Some players travel from Geelong and Melbourne each week to compete.

This is one of the highest standard grass court competitions in country Victoria, and is backed by a Premier Two Division of 12 teams, plus three other grades in the association.

The organisers deserve credit for producing such a competitive and even contest, with any two of the final four sides capable of playing off for the shield.
